ABSTRACT:
Urinary Tract Infection and associated complications are acute life-threatening conditions that may arise in patients due to lack of proper care as well as due to inadequate knowledge of the staff nurses. Nurses being the primary health care provider should possess competent knowledge and skill to manage such emergencies diligently in the wards. An experimental study was conducted to see the effectiveness of self-instructional module on the knowledge level of the staff nurses about the indwelling catheter care in Cancer hospital & research Institute,Gwalior.Purposive techniques was used to allocate the subjects. The study was conducted on 50 nurses working in Cancer hospital & research Institute, Gwalior. With the help of review of literature Callista Roy’s conceptual framework was implicated in the study. Researcher used structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge level of staff nurses regarding indwelling catheter care , that was validated by 6 experts in nursing and medical field. Reliability of the tool was calculated by split half method was found r=0.83.Data has been analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results:
• The mean score of the participants obtained for the level of knowledge in pre test was 24.64 and standard deviation was 5.71
• The improved mean score for level of knowledge in post test was 41.06 and standard deviation was 4.96
• The effectiveness of self instructional module is 15.36
• The coefficient of co relation came out to be 0.16 which indicates positive co-relation
• It is recommended that staff nurses should be provided in service education.
