ABSTRACT:
A descriptive cross study was undertaken to assess the knowledge of the adolescents on ill effects of using hair coloring in selected villages at Kondalampatti. 50 adolescents were selected by purposive sampling technique and data was collected by using structured interview schedule. The findings were analyzed by using descriptive study, paragraph A demographic characteristic reveals that, highest percentage (36%) of adolescents were belonged to the age group of above 19 years and (32%) had no formal education. Majority (44%) of them were Hindu and (64%) of the peoples were male and 68% of them were lived in nuclear family. Highest percentage (42%) of the mothers had information through mass media. Area wise comparison of adolescents regarding ill effects of hair coloring shows that overall percentage of knowledge mean score was 51% it shows that most of the adolescents had average knowledge. Association between the knowledge scores of adolescents with their demographic variables shows that no significant association (P>0.05) was found between adolescents knowledge scores and age, sex, type of family , religion , educational status, previous sources of information. (P>0.05).
