ABSTRACT:
Accidents represent a major epidemic of non-communicable disease in present time. Road traffic accident or injuries are currently 9th leading cause of death globally and are expected to become the 2nd leading cause by the year 2020, next to ischemic heart disease.1 Road traffic accidents are the major cause of death among the person aged 10-25 years (children and young adults).2 objective of the study was to assess the knowledge of two wheeler teenage riders regarding road safety measures and prevention of accidents, to assess attitude of two wheeler teenage riders regarding road safety measures and prevention of accident, to find out the relationship between the knowledge and attitude of two wheeler teenage riders regarding road safety measures and prevention of accident, to find out the association between the knowledge and attitude of two wheeler teenage riders with selected demographic variables and to develop an information booklet regarding road safety measures and prevention of accidents. Non experimental Descriptive design was adopted. The samples consist of 100 teenage two-wheeler riders’ students at selected by using the non probability purposive sampling techniques from high schools and pre-university college of Jaipur (Raj.). Data were collected by validated structured knowledge questionnaire to assess knowledge and five point Likert’s scale to assess attitude. Result of the study reveals that 59.00% two wheeler teenage riders had moderate level of knowledge 41.00% had moderate level of knowledge regarding road safety measures and prevention of accidents. Regarding attitude 70.00% two wheeler teenage riders had moderate favorable and 30.00% two wheeler teenage riders had favorable attitude towards road safety measures and prevention of accidents. There was a positive correlation (r=+0.314) between the knowledge and attitude of the respondent on the Road safety measures and prevention of accidents. Conclusion: the result of the study showed that two wheeler teenage riders had moderate knowledge and moderately favorable attitude regarding road safety measures and prevention of accidents. It has given a new avenue to researchers to conduct the a comparative, health educational programme and training module to teenagers riders to aware about road safety measures and prevention of accidents.
