Having period does not mean sex is not an option. It comes with some benefits and some side effects. This is the question of many peopleís that having sex before, after and during menstruation is safe of not?† People feel shy to discuss about this topic. Period is a part of the menstrual cycle when a woman bleeds from her vagina for a few days. You may feel more sexually aroused during your period time.

Menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus. Menstrual cycle occurs due to the rise or fall of estrogen. When sperm fuse with ovary they make zygote and pregnancy will occur by that zygote implantation. If pregnancy does not occur, uterus sheds its lining. Peoples are used to have sex during menstruation. This is not scientifically proven that sex in periods have bad effect.


1. Periods Sex: Benefits:

a)    Reduce Stress:

Sex and stress are linked in several ways. Biological psychology found that sexual activity prevents increases in blood pressure during stressful events. Itís a great exercise, which itself is an effective stress reliever and also works as a Diversional therapy for stress. Having sex and orgasms increases levels of the hormone oxytocin (love hormone), which help us bound and builds trust. Oxytocin allows us to feel the urge to nurture and to bond.

Orgasms may relieve menstrual cramps. Menstrual cramps are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. Sex also triggers the release of chemicals called endorphins, which make you feel good and engaging in sexual activity occupies your mind, which may help take it off your menstrual discomfort.

4) Increased Sex Drive:

Libido changes throughout your menstrual cycle, due to the hormonal fluctuations. Sex drive increases during ovulation, which is about two weeks before period, while some says feeling more turned on during their period.


5) Shorter Periods:

Having sex may make your periods shorter. Sexual activity make the uterine to contract faster as normal so the Muscle contractions in menstruation during an orgasm push out the menstruation blood and uterine contents faster. That could result in shorter periods.


Infection Risk from Sex During Your Period:

Period sex can also leads to infection and also there is a chance to get STDís like HIV during the unprotected period sex. Lauren Streicher, MD, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern Universityís Feinberg School of


Medicine in Chicago, says that anecdotally speaking, there are two reasons for this risk. ďAny bodily fluid can carry HIV or other is STIs, and during your period, the cervix opens slightly, which might allow viruses to pass through.


Can U Get Pregnant During Period Sex:

Research has found the probability of being in your fertile window on the first couple of days of your period in close to zero and may rise to about 2% on day 4th.


It is important to remember though, that just because your body is eliminating your uterine lining because an egg was release4d but not fertilized does not mean you canít pregnant while you have your period. Likewise, concerns about sexually transmitted infections are the same regardless of the time of the month.


Tips On Having Sex During Your Period:

Having sex during periods can sometimes be messy; however, there are some tips people can take if they are worried about this, including:

       Use dark color towels to cover sheets or other surfaces.

       If either of you and your partner is hesitant, talk about the reasons behind the discomfort.

       Have your partner wear a latex condom. It will protect against pregnancy and STIs.

       Staying in the missionary position or laying on one side of the bed.

       Use a disposable menstrual cup, remove it before the activity.

       Use condom to prevent STDís



Taboos about avoiding sexual behavior while menstruating are based on archaic ideas.† There is no scientific evidence that having sex during period is harmful to health. Some women even find that having intercourse while menstruating brings several benefits and is more pleasurable that it is at other times, if anyone doesnít feel like engaging in period sex or ever thatís also a normal response. Masturbation during period is also an option.
