A Study to assess the factor affecting compliance of DOTS Therapy among the Tuberculosis patient at selected DOTS centre of Mehsana District

ABSTRACT:
INTRODUCTION: There is a killer that snuffs out the life of two Indians every three minutes and the killer is tuberculosis (TB), among all infectious diseases, Tuberculosis is one of the six killer disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The disease primarily affects the lungs and causes pulmonary tuberculosis. It can also affect the intestine, meanings, bones and joints, lymph glands, skin and other tissues of the body. Tuberculosis is a worldwide public health problem despite the fact that the causative organism was discovered more than 100 years ago and highly effective drugs and vaccine are available making tuberculosis a preventable and curable disease. Despite the fact that Tuberculosis is a treatable disease, it has assumed epidemic proportions in India.1 DESIGN: A quantitative approach using non experimental Descriptive survey research design. PARTICIPANTS: 100 Tuberculosis Patient were selected using Non Probability convienent sampling technique in selected DOTS center of Mehsana District. INTERVENTIONS: Descriptive Survey Method was given to the T.B Patient. TOOL: Self-Structured Questionnaire was used to assess the factor affecting compliance of DOTS therapy among TB Patients. RESULTS: In this study overall the highest percentage in the demographic data including the Age group 38% (above 48 year), Gender 56% (Male), marital Status (73%) Married, Education (36%) Primary, Occupation (64%) Other, Income (45%) Below 5000, Type of Family (71%) Joint Family, Type of house (44%) pakka House, and Care giver (60%) Spouse, treatment Duration (35%) 2 to 4 month. A total 100 sample selected from Mehsana district. In that Since p-values corresponding to age and education of the tuberculosis patients were small (less than 0.05) was found to have significant association with Distance from home deter to continue the DOT’S. Since p-values corresponding to age, occupation and caregiver of the tuberculosis patients were small (less than 0.05) was found to have significant association with Work schedule deter to continue the DOT’S treatment. Since p-values corresponding to caregiver of the tuberculosis patients were small (less than 0.05), was found to have significant association with Money influence decision to continue the DOT’S treatment. Since the p-value corresponding to caregiver is small (less than 0.05) was found to have significant association with Experienced social isolation after getting tuberculosis infection. Since the p-value corresponding to type of family is small (less than 0.05) was found to have significant association with Missed the dose due to unavaibility of the drug. CONCLUSION: Compliance with DOTS in the Mehsana District area is affected by Distance of DOTS center, Work Schedule, travel expenses, Social isolation and unavaibility of drug.
